Welcome to History Tours Norfolk

Thank you for dropping in to History Tours Norfolk.  We are a small company offering short breaks to Norwich and Norfolk, taking in a wealth of ancient sites which make this area is one of England’s most fascinating and historic regions.

We are offering visitors a personal tour accompanied by an expert local historian and our itinerary will include visits to the most important buildings and sites both in the city of Norwich and the surrounding area.

We will be looking mainly at the period in which East Anglia became perhaps the most prosperous area in the British Isles – the medieval period – 11th -15th centuries, when the North Sea was the natural route for travellers from the Continent, enabling the flowering of trade and the distribution of wealth, the results of which remain visible in Norfolk’s historic environment.  The county was home to great monasteries, including one attached to the Norman cathedral in Norwich, and Norfolk also retains the greatest concentration of medieval churches anywhere in Europe (over 650).

We shall visit Norwich Castle Museum with its magnificent collections of archaeology, natural history and art including the Norwich School of Painting with works by Crome, Cotman, Middleton, Bright and many others.  These depict the beauty of both the landscape and some of the great historic buildings found in Norfolk.
